FISCHER, DUANE B. Of Flint, age 71, died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his residence. Memorial service will be held 1pm Saturday, January 13, 2018 at New Testament Community Church, 3484 Belsay Road, Burton. Pastor Darrell Bailey officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family. Duane was born in Flint, Michigan on October 22, 1946, the son of the late Gail and Mertys (Johnson) Fischer. He was a Ham Radio operator, W8DBF, active member of the Federation for the Blind and avid coin collector and loved astronomy. Duane loved magic and became a magician. He traveled all over Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee performing in schools to teach children his message, "guns and drugs kill, that's no illusion!" He was the world's only total blind professional magician, mentalist and illusionist. He was a Star Trek fanatic, has several trophies for show cars and also loved music. Surviving are daughter, Shelly and husband Steve Sanetrik; 4 grandsons, Brandon, Reile y and Gavin Carpenter and Aedin Sanetrik; great-grandson, Robert Ausmus-Carpenter; half-sister, Shirley Theiss; brother, Robert and wife Sharon Fischer; one niece; one nephew and many cousins and life-long friend, Deo Young. He was preceded in death by Dorothy and Thane Reiley, who were like parents to Duane. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
